Affordable Land
The Comox Valley is one of the few remaining areas in British Columbia with designated land available for agrifood ventures. With many growing regions currently utilizing over 90% of their agricultural land base, the Valley is in an ideal position for new expansion. Only 1/3 of available agriculture land is currently utilized and it's very affordable, in some cases selling for 1/3 the price of land in Greater Vancouver.

Excellent Soil and Water
Comox Valley soils have high capability ratings, the majority classed at 1-3. As part of the coastal rainforest region, the Valley has short, wet winters, which means wells, reservoirs and rivers have an abundance of water.

Refreshing Diversity

Over 180 different crop commodities are grown here, including specialty items like organics, sprouts, wasabi, cranberries and vineyards. There are a number of other unique and exciting niche businesses in development, including Canada's second single malt distillery.

Access to World Markets
The new Comox Valley International Airport (YQQ) has accelerated the potential for growth in high value, specialty agri-products. Regular daily flights connect with Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton with service expected soon other major destinations.

Excellent Support at All Levels
All levels of government in the Comox Valley support increased production and expansion of agrifood opportunities. The New Comox Valley Economic Development Strategy for the Comox Valley identifies food and beverage processing as the community’s number one economic growth priority. The Valley has a vibrant farming community, including the oldest agricultural organization in BC, the Farmer’s Institute, established in 1873.
